Quantum has been providing structural Value Engineering (VE) services to our clients since 2002. VE, also known as value analysis (VA) is a professionally facilitated methodology that emphasizes the analysis of function and costs to derive value improvements. With an interesting diversity of project types, we have participated in many VE studies for K-12, higher education, correctional and hospital/high-tech projects.
Our participation has been as the structural team member of highly qualified design professionals. Our VE analysis of projects is a function based, systematic approach of reviewing a project to avoid unnecessary costs while still maintaining or improving quality. The VE is a team process of several design professionals that is much more than a mere cost-cutting exercises. It is not based on simple material substitution to cut costs but is also meant to add value by improving function and quality while avoiding unnecessary costs.
Constructability Review (CR) is an important project management tool, which can help reduce project risk. During construction, Requests for Information (RFI's) are often necessary for clarification of design intent or specifications, but often result in construction delays. Even more costly are Change Orders, which owners and contractors find necessary to improve project quality or reduce the costs of construction. In short, this document review process helps to avoid unnecessary costs and/or delays. Well coordinated documents represent lower risk factors to both our owners, clients and potential contractors, which result in more competitive bids.
