Mercer Island Residence
Mercer Island, WA | Architect: The Miller/Hull Partnership
Quantum Consulting Engineers provided structural design of this 4,000 SF private residence with carport located along the east bank of Lake Washington. Integrated into a steep hillside, the three-story home is constructed of exposed concrete, red cedar siding, galvanized and black steel, and mill finish aluminum. The design features extensive use of structural steel, an elevated carport, and critical-slope foundation design, including a lower concrete retaining wall. Two steel frame boxes are separated by bridges and are seated on concrete and glass at the first level box. The upper boxes cantilever out toward the water. A bridge connects to the residence and features two elevators, one within the residence, and one from the detached carport above to the bridge.
